Overcoming Your Public Speaking Fear

Public Speaking is the number #1 fear that people have. When I am giving a presentation, most people assume that it has always been easy for me. That is so far from the truth. I had horrifying experiences when I was in grammar school that left me feeling completely embarrassed and absolutely mortified. I promised myself I would never allow myself to be put in those situations again.

When I look back on those events, I now look at those experiences with gratitude. I am who I am today because I learned from those experiences. They have absolutely made me a better Public Speaking Coach. If I can overcome my fear of being in front of an audience, I know anyone can.

Why Public Speeches Are Hard

If you want to know why public speeches are hard, it comes down to not really knowing how to do something properly. It isn’t exactly a skill taught us by our parents, it just something we are expected to pick up on our own. Let me explain.

English language teaching theory has traditionally been based on native English forms, more specifically British and American English varieties. In today’s international community however, where more than 1 billion non-native English speakers use English as a lingua franca, teaching theory is changing to focus on English as an International Language (EIL).

Shortcuts To Professional Public Presentations - Hints From Pits

Most say there aren’t short cuts, but they are full of prunes. Some say you must be born with the gift of public speaking, baloney. Some may seem gifted more than others at first blush, but the gift was paid for one way or another. The bottom line, barring a legitimate phobia, just about anybody can wow an audience most of the time. It helps if you are actually at least a borderline expert of course, but even that is optional.
