People that suffer from excessive sweating are often surprised when I tell them that it is often our diet that contributes to this effect. They always assume it was genetics and they were just born that way. That could be the reason, but that doesn’t mean we can’t control it. Here are some common questions I’m asked.

Do spicy foods make you excessively sweat?

Unfortunately they do. If you’re a big fan of the spicy foods, than you might feel a little bad about eliminating them, but they have a large effect on us. First they are just hot to our senses, they burn up our mouth and make our face sweat. They also speed up the metabolism, which results in your body producing more heat, therefore we sweat.

Does caffeine cause us to sweat?

Yes it does. All your favorite drinks like coffee and coke can cause you to excessively sweat. The caffeine in it causes your heart to start beating at a much faster rate. This causes the body to get warmer and start to sweat.

Does eating hot food have an effect?

It does have an effect, but some foods more than others. Regular hot solid foods are generally fine, it is the hot liquids that get us. For example, soups and hot coffees. They’re very hard for the body to cool down it is forced to sweat.

These were the questions I usually get asked and food does have a great effect on how much we end up sweating. There are ways of controlling it and diet is one of those ways.
