My experience is if I take a thousand visitors upfront and send them to a sales page, and I generate say a 1 percent conversion rate, I’m going to generate 10 sales, what I find is that if I have a page that converts at 1 % to cold traffic. If I have a squeeze page that converts at say, 30% so I get 300 subscribers, so I have 700 people that never see my sales page, but I take those 300 subscribers, and immediately after they subscribe, they get an offer to buy the very same thing that I could have just pitched them at the very beginning on that sales page. I’ll normally still end up without about 10 sales, so the conversion rate goes to about 3 or 3.5 percent.

Now, my theory on this is that, now I mentioned this earlier, that the only people that are going to give you their name and email address, I phrased it differently, but the idea is that only people who trust you are going to give you their name and email address. So my feeling is, that only people that trust you are going to have bought the product and given you their credit card number.

I realize you don’t usually get the credit card number, that paypal gets it, or your merchant account does, but the idea remains the same, they’ve got to trust you enough, if they don’t trust you enough to give you their name and email address, they probably don’t trust you enough to pay for something. Now, my contention is, my theory on why these numbers kind of break even here is because the pool of 300 subscribers who trusted you enough to give you their name and email address, contains out of all of the people out of that thousand that would have made a purchase, so those are the same people making those purchases, and that’s something interesting there, I did not factor it into the model I just did, because it would have added another line or two and made it more confusing. But, if you go back in and factor in this in, you’ll find that your sales go up even more drastically than how they did in the model I just gave you.
